NICOTINIC ACID - A SOURCE  OF NAD

SUMMARY
Nicotinic acid is included in Rejuvenan products because it is a precursor of NAD.  NAD cannot be
included in any supplement because it is rather unstable. Heat, humidity, etc. inactivate it and really
make it useless as a supplement.

BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY
Nicotinic acid, a natural form of Vitamin B3  is a precursor of NAD.  NAD Is a small molecule with a
ubiquitous presence in all living things. It is a
key biological molecule   involved in many metabolic reactions
including  longevity gene activation, calorie restriction life extension, energy creation and many age related diseases

THE
NIACINAMIDE B3 PURCHASED AS A VITAMIN IS GENERALLY NOT NICOTINIC ACID...RATHER IT IS THE
CHEAPER NICOTINAMIDE  WHICH, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS SOME OF THE PROPERTIES OF NICOTINIC ACID,  IS
SIGNIFICANTLY, UNDESIRABLY DIFFERENT THAN NICOTINIC ACID IN LIFE EXTENSION PROPERTIES -
ACTUALLY, AS WE'LL POINT OUT BELOW,  NICOTINAMIDE ACTS AS AN INHIBITOR OR THE LIFE EXTENSION GENE
ACTIVITY.
HOW NICOTINIC ACID WORKS
In order to delve further into NAD/Nicotinic Acid  function and longevity we must understand the calorie restriction
connection to  longevity. Life extension stimuli:
  • Seems to work by stimulating the SIR Family of Genes, now called "Longevity Genes". Stimulation of Sir protein
(Sirtuins) production by these genes seems to be critical to life extension effects.  NAD is essential to the activation
    of these genes.
  • Activate a gene called PNCI which produces an enzyme that rids cell of nicotinamide, a small molecule similar to
Vitamin B3. Thus taking non-Nicotinic Acid B3 (Nicotinamide) may have a negative effect on longevity
  • Cause increase of respiration in cells producing more NAD and decreasing NADH
  • It is known that NAD is essential to the function of the SIR genes ... without NAD the longevity genes cannot
    function.
  • Supplemental Nicotinic acid allows cells to make more NAD which in turn enhances the activity of the life extension
    SIR genes

The Nicotinic Acid included in Rejuvenan/Genes is meant to help the body produce more NAD and thus activate life
extension gene activity.

Other Benefits of Nicotinic Acid
It might be pointed out that, in addition to the direct effect on life extension,  nicotinic acid supplementation affects life
extension by its very effective role in:
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Helping prevent development of diabetes
  • Fighting cancer
  • Enhancing energy generation in cells
  • Being a better form of Vitamin B3 than Nicotinamide

Vitamin B3 Chemical Structures
Toxicity
Flushing, itching is the most common side effect of nicotinic acid Vitamin B3 supplements. Nausea,
vomiting, dry skin and skin rashes  may also be noted at doses greater than 750mg.  Immediate-release
(crystalline) nicotinic acid (such as the form used in Rejuvenan products) appears to be less toxic to the
liver than extended release forms. Very high doses of 1.5mg-5.0mg Nicotinic acid/day (much higher than
the amount provided by Rejuvenan products) have resulted in a few case reports of  blurred vision, and
other eye problems, which have generally been reversible upon discontinuation. People with abnormal
liver function or a history of liver disease, diabetes, active peptic ulcer disease, gout, cardiac
arrhythmias, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine headaches, and alcoholism may be more susceptible
to the adverse effects of excess nicotinic acid intake than the general population.
